The new power is so popular and the configuration is so high. Why would anyone buy a Mercedes-Benz new energy vehicle? Is it really just for the car logo?
This time, let’s try this Mercedes-Benz EQE 500 4Matic SUV.

In terms of appearance design, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV is still highly recognizable. You can tell at a glance that this is the EQ family of Mercedes-Benz. Although the feeling of the bowed body is not as obvious as that of the EQE EQS sedan, the feeling can still be seen. The length, width and height are 4880/2032/1679, and the wheelbase is 3030mm. Although it is also called EQE, the length and wheelbase of the EQE SUV are actually about 100mm shorter than the EQE sedan. The size is between the GLC L and GLE of gasoline trucks.

The drag coefficient is 0.25. Doesn’t it look very low? But this is already similar to the performance of sedan coupes such as E-CLASS Coupe and A-Class Sedan. It is not easy for an SUV to achieve this value, so engineers also spent a lot of effort.

The 2.6-megapixel smart digital headlights can adjust the beam distribution according to the actual conditions of the road. When the vehicle is unlocked or locked, there will also be an exclusive meteor shower lighting effect. There are two triangular LED daytime running lights inside the headlights, and the EQS has three. Maybe in the future, we can judge the class of the car based on this. For example, in the past, the number of LED daytime running lights was used to judge the model class of Mercedes-Benz: C-class one, Two for E-level and three for S-level. The tail shape is similar to that of the EQS SUV, both using penetrating 3D spiral taillights. The four spirals on one side inside are the logo of the "E-class" electric vehicle, while the five spirals belong to the EQS series.

The most eye-catching thing in the car is naturally the triple screen design with a length of 1.4 meters, as well as the 64-color ambient lights spread throughout the car. The ambient lighting provides 10 dynamic Chinese natural beauty themes and 1 "Gemstone Flowing Clouds" atmosphere theme exclusive to pure electric models. In the "Gemstone Flowing Clouds" mode, the lights can present different effects according to different driving conditions.

The MBUX car-machine system focuses on a zero-level interface concept, which is what we often call the map as the desktop. It is exclusively customized and also comes with AR real-life navigation.

Thanks to the wheelbase of 3030mm, the legroom in the rear row is guaranteed. Although it is a new energy SUV, the presence of the battery does not significantly affect the height of the floor. The rear seats are the same as the front seats. The filling material is relatively hard and focuses more on support, making it less likely to cause fatigue during long rides. The rear seat cushion is actually not very long, but the cleverly tilted up angle of the seat cushion provides sufficient support for the thighs of the rear passengers and prevents the thighs from hanging near the knees.

The first thing that impressed me deeply about the driving part is that it really drives like a gas car. This feeling starts when you put the gear into gear and press the first pedal of the electric pedal. The electric pedal is like a classic Mercedes-Benz petrol car. It has a little weight, rather than the light and airy feeling. You want to Put some effort into stepping on it, and it will give you a sense of stability from the beginning.

Then the whole feeling of power will not be that of running away as soon as you step on it, but that of unconsciously fast. In fact, the power and torque of the dual motors of 300kW and 858Nm are already quite strong, but Mercedes-Benz will adjust the power output curve of the EQE 500 SUV to be more linear. Even in sports mode, the speed is casually fast. The 0-100 acceleration in 5.1 seconds is not extreme, but when you have strong power requirements, it can definitely satisfy you.

The most interesting thing is that the simulated sound provided by the EQE 500 SUV has an engine sound that is very much like an old V8. With such power output characteristics, you will have a vague illusion that you are driving an old C63, which is rich and linear. The large displacement naturally aspirated feeling.

The second thing that impressed me the most was that the kinetic energy recovery in standard mode feels very natural. The EQE 500 SUV will have four gears for kinetic energy recovery, which are strong (that is, almost a single pedal), standard, none, and automatic. In automatic mode, the vehicle will automatically determine based on various factors such as radar, cameras, maps, etc. For example, if there is no car in front, it will use zero kinetic energy recovery to increase the cruising distance, and if there is a car in front, it will use strong energy recovery. In the standard mode, the kinetic energy recovery of the EQE 500 SUV does not feel like a very obvious dragging feeling. Even if you have just switched from a gas car to this car, there is basically no need for additional adaptation time.

The third impression is that rear-wheel steering really makes this car feel like a big car turning into a small car when driving. The steering angle of the rear wheels can reach a maximum of 10 degrees, and the turning diameter is as low as 10.5 meters with 60 kilometers as the dividing point. In an environment below 60 kilometers, the rear wheels rotate in the opposite direction to the front wheels. Compared to this size, the car is very flexible in corners.
